<aside> <img src="/icons/info-alternate_blue.svg" alt="/icons/info-alternate_blue.svg" width="40px" /> Our nervous system has two states

The sympathetic nervous system winds us up into a “fight-or-flight” state, if, for example: A lion were to walk in the door next to you (Or, the classic day of coffee, ice bath, gym, work, music blaring…)

The parasympathetic nervous system winds us down into “rest and digest” when we are under no threat or stimulation.

In a fight-or-flight state your body sends it’s resources to essential functions that are needed so you can perform optimally.

This means that less essential functions such as the immune system, hormonal balance, the digestive system, all wind down. This systems operate best in a rest and digest state.

Hence, mastering your nervous system as a I teach throughout this program is vitally important. At the bare-minimum you MUST be in a calm and relaxed state whilst eating. Giving yourself time to slowly eat meals.

If not, food will be poorly digested; providing food on a platter for bacteria in your gut to feed on which a) Creates an environment where “bad” bacteria thrive, b) Leads to gas production and bloating, c) Reduces what you absorb from the meal, and more.

When eating, only be eating. No eating on the move. No flying through meals to get back to work (or eating whilst working). Give each meal the attention is deserves.
